Starfire Angels- Melanie Nilles

They've been coming here for thousands of years, using Earth as a sanctuary to escape threats from their own kind. Mankind knows them as angels, and one of them left a child upon her death to be raised as a human.

Raea is now a high school senior, and her life as a human is about to end. The crystal shard she bears is not a pretty pendant; it's a collective of powerful entities who chose her as their Keeper, a protector of one of the four shards that power a machine capable of destroying whole worlds. Those who desire the Starfire's power have sent an agent to find her, but she's too busy evading a nosy reporter ready to exploit her secret and dating a hot new foreign student to notice. Nevermind learning what she really is.

Only one person on Earth can help her, the last person she ever expected. But he's not from Earth. Life as a human would be so much easier.

The Review

3 Stars. There were some times when I found the book to be really good and other times when I found it be really bad. Sometimes the characters were weird and other times they were deep and full of life. I found the concept really interesting. The idea of "angels" having a shard of crystal that has this power is interesting. The main character Raea was boring but Elis was not. He was cool and even though everybody misunderstood him he didn't let that get to him. Raea seemed like she was always forcing her conversations with her friends. It didn't seemed natural. Sometimes the author interrupted the flow of the story. She told us what was going on. she didn't show us and taht got on my nerves. There was rarely any description. We were just told. I enjoyed the book for the most part, I just wish the characters and the descriptions, or lack of, were different.

Bitter Frost- Kailin Gow

All her life, Breena had always dreamed about fairies as though she lived among them... beautiful fairies living among mortals and living in Feyland. In her dreams, he was always there the breathtakingly handsome but dangerous Winter Prince, Kian, who is her intended. When Breena turns sixteen, she begins seeing fairies and other creatures mortals don't see. Her best friend Logan, suddenly acts very protective. Then she sees Kian, who seems intent on finding her and carrying her off to Feland. That's fine and all, but for the fact that humans rarely survive a trip to Feyland, a kiss from a fairy generally means death to the human unless that human has fairy blood in them or is very strong, and although Kian seemed to be her intended, he seems to hate her and wants her dead.

The Review

2 1/2 Stars. I really wanted to like this book. But I just couldn't. Throughout the book I felt as if something was missing. The characters were bad. Really bad. They didn't have any depth. Breena (the main character) wasn't a very strong heroine. The only characters I liked were the Summer Queen and Logan. The Summer Queen was cool she had a certain spark to her. The author made her interesting. If only she would have done that to the other characters. Logan was a protective best friend who loved Breena but she didn't seem to notice and if she did she just didn't care. She bugged me. When Logan was captured by Delano (the Pixie King) and declared dead, Breena just forgot about him. Sure she cried for like a minute but then it was like Logan didn't matter. Breena didn't care she was just so focused on Kian. If your best friend died, don't you think that would stick in you mind? And don't you think you should try to avenge his death? Obviously she didn't think so. Oh! It was just annoying. Then there were some parts where Miss. Gow interupted the flow of the story by not using contractions. It didn't sound right in some parts. I liked the plot. It has the making of a good book but it just lacks something. Overall it was ok. Would i read the next book in the series? I don't know.

Remembrance- Michelle Madow

Lizzie Davenport has been reincarnated from Regency Era, England... but she doesn't know it yet. Then Drew Carmichael transfers into Lizzie's high school at the beginning of the year, and she feels a connection to him, almost like she knows him. She can't stop thinking about him, but whenever she tries talking with him about the mysteries behind her feelings, he makes it clear that he wants nothing to do with her. Reaching him is even more difficult because she has a boyfriend, Jeremy, who has started to become full of himself after being elected co-captain of the varsity soccer team, and her flirtatious best friend Chelsea starts dating Drew soon after his arrival. So why can't she get him out of her mind? Even though Lizzie knows she should let go of her fascination with Drew, fighting fate isn't going to be easy.

The Review

4 stars. I truly loved this book but some of it felt a little rushed. The beginning and middle of the story were great but the ending seemed a bit... unrealistic. It seemed improbable that Lizzie would forgive Drew after everything he's done and said to her. But I guess when you have a love as strong as theirs, anything is possible. The thing I hate the most is the way Chelsea treated Lizzie. Sure, Lizzie stole Chelsea's boyfriend but get over it. It's not the end of the world. You should be happy that your best friend found the love of their life, you shouldn't be trying to tear them apart and then act as if you're the one who was wronged. At least Drew didn't date Lizze behind her back. Chelsea just seemed kinda selfish. But then again the same could be said for Lizzie. She did steal Chelsea's boyfriend but Lizzie and Drew are meant to be. Things didn't end right in the first life and now they have a chance to set it right. Lizzie and Drew were great characters. The author made me fall in love with their story. A very well written book and an amazing read.

Falling Under by Gwen Hayes

Theia Alderson has always led a sheltered life not allowed the same freedoms as the rest of the teenagers in the small California town of Serendipity Falls. But when a devastatingly handsome boy appears in the halls of her school, she feels every urge she’s ever denied burning through her at the slightest glance from Haden Black. Theia knows she’s seen Haden before—not around town, but in her dreams. Theia doesn’t understand how she dreamed of Haden before they ever met, but every night has them joined in a haunting world of eerie fantasy. And as the Haden of both the night and the day beckons her forward one moment and pushes her away the next, the only thing Theia knows for sure is that the incredible pull she feels toward him is stronger than her fear. And as she slowly discovers what Haden truly is, Theia’s not sure whether she wants to resist him—even if the cost is her soul.

Two Songs that came to mind while reading this book-
Can’t Shake You- Gloriana
If I Didn’t Have You- Thompson Square

“But Hayden had turned away from the thing he wanted most, to be human, to come for me. I couldn’t fight him, didn’t want to. Instead I gave myself to him and to the dragging tide of his heart. We kissed as our bodies became weightless and we were pulled into another world.
   And together we fell under.”

4 ½ Stars. The quote above sums up the whole book. “Falling Under” follows Theia and Hayden’s relationship. At the beginning Hayden didn’t want to be near Theia in case he hurt her. This is perfectly understandable. But relationships are never that easy. Theia and Hayden have an intense force drawing them together. They’ll try to fight against it but it won’t work. So, they stop fighting and they fall in love. Now this is not one of those books where everything is mushy gushy. No, this book has romance, humor, and action. Miss. Hayes has created a world with strong protagonists and antagonists. Her characters are developed and complex. All in all this was an amazing book. I look forward to reading the next book in the series.
Next Book- Dreaming Awake.
