The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer- Michelle Hodkin

Mara Dyer doesn't believe life can get any stranger than waking up in a hospital with no memory of how she got there. It can.
She believes there must be more to the accident she can't remember that killed her friends and left her strangely unharmed. There is.
She doesn't believe that after everything she's been through, she can fall in love. She's wrong.

Mara Dyer is messed up. Like seriously messed up. Her best friend and another friend died. Her boyfriend tried to moleste her but he died before he could finish. Mara is the one who killed them all. She didn't mean to, of course. It was an accident. She didn't know what she was doing. She didn't know about the power she possesed deep inside her. And yet it still happened. Because of this Mara moves to Florida and starts to go to a new school. On her first day, she has made one friend, an enemy in the form of the most popular girl in the school, and she has captured the attention of the school's resident Player. The Player's name is Noah and honestly he is to good to be true. Sure he has made some.... conquest, but he has a good heart. And he has Mara's heart at the forefront of his thoughts. He wants to know what makes Mara tick. He wants to find a way to make her, his. Because with one glance, Noah fell. And he fell hard. Even when Mara was trying to get rid of him, he stayed. He wanted to know her. He wanted to make her love him. And Oh! How she did! She fell just as hard as he did, if not more. But Noah has a secret. I'm not going to say what it is because it would be a serious spolier. There are a limited number of things I did not like with this book but the pros outweigh the cons. Like for example some of the dialogue seemed force. And I wished her parents didn't automatically think she was crazy. Also why id Mara think that was the right thing to do at the end? Why did she think leaving Noah was the answer? I have no idea but I AM going to figure that out.

Of Triton- Anna Banks

Emma has just learned that her mother is a long-lost Poseidon princess, and now struggles with an identity crisis: As a Half-Breed, she's a freak in the human world and an abomination in the Syrena realm. Syrena law states all Half-Breeds should be put to death.

As if that's not bad enough, her mother's reappearance in the Syrena world turns the two kingdoms--Poseidon and Triton--against one another. Which leaves Emma with a decision to make: Should she comply with Galen's request to keep herself safe and just hope for the best? Or should she risk it all and reveal herself--and her Gift--to save a people she's never known?

This was a good filler book. it wasn't great and it wasn't bad. It was just good. In the second installment of the Of Poseidon Series, Emma has had quite a shock. Not only is she a half- breed (Which is illegal) but she is a Princess that is a half- breed. Talk about a shocker. In this book there is a lot less romance than in the previous book. Galen and Emma kiss like a grand total of four times. Nothing to be excited about. Although one of the best parts was when Galen told everybody he wanted to take Emma as his mate. Talk about cute. New characters were brought in and we get to see old characters grow. I love Emma's grandfather. He has a temper though but he seems to care about what happens within his family so I thought he made a wonderful addition to the Family. I liked Nalie. She had spunk. I don't think I liked Emma though. She was a bit whiny. And she kept ging back to what Chloe would want and she started questioning if she was replacing Chloe with Galen. And I was like what the heck? You can't start a new life without her? Oh Well. Hopefully she grows out of that. I can't wait for the third book though. Although the epilogue was weird. It made it seem like Of Triton was the last book. But it's not. It sure did read like it was.

Pretty Little Liars- Sara Shepard (3 Stars)

Everyone has something to hide—especially high school juniors Spencer, Aria, Emily, and Hanna. Spencer covets her sister's boyfriend. Aria's fantasizing about her English teacher. Emily's crushing on the new girl at school. And Hanna uses some ugly tricks to stay beautiful. But they've all kept an even bigger secret since their friend Alison vanished. How do I know? Because I know everything about the bad girls they were and the naughty girls they are now. And guess what? I'm telling.

The only reason I decided to read this book is because I wanted to know what the T.V. show was about. I’m so thankful I picked up this book.

This book is filled with mystery and romance. With everybody questioning each other, you never know who the real killer is.

The book follows Aria, Spencer, Emily, and Hanna. These four girls just lost the leader of their group. She disappeared and wasn’t seen or heard from again.

My favorite character was Aria and Hanna. I loved Aria because she didn’t really know who she was. She was trying to find herself constantly. She also seemed the most levelheaded when Spencer was acting crazy.

I loved Hanna because she was so lost. Her boyfriend doesn’t want her and she was starting to feel fat again so her eating disorder flares up. I just felt so bad for her.

I did not like Spencer or Emily. I didn’t like Spencer because of what she did with her sister’s boyfriend and I didn’t like Emily because she was so whiny.

Now there is a relationship I really enjoyed. That was the relationship of Aria and Ezra. They have the Romeo and Juliet vibe going on. Like, the star-crossed lovers, they find a way to make it work.

This book wasn’t great and it certainly wasn’t bad it was just OKAY.

Matched- Ally Condie (3 1/2 Stars)

Cassia has always trusted the Society to make the right choices for her: what to read, what to watch, what to believe. So when Xander's face appears on-screen at her Matching ceremony, Cassia knows he is her ideal mate . . . until she sees Ky Markham's face flash for an instant before the screen fades to black. The Society tells her it's a glitch, a rare malfunction, and that she should focus on the happy life she's destined to lead with Xander. But Cassia can't stop thinking about Ky, and as they slowly fall in love, Cassia begins to doubt the Society's infallibility and is faced with an impossible choice: between Xander and Ky, between the only life she's known and a path that no one else has dared to follow.

I love dystopian novels... I really do.... truly I do. But this one was just lacking. I mean I loved the society and what goes on in the society. What I didn't like was
A.) It was kind of slow
B.) Xavier and Ky

I loved Ky but I didn't like how Cassia strung Xavier along. They were best friends. Seriously. And then she just like falls for Ky I guess. One moment,I swear, they were friends and the next BAM! They were in love. Like, What the heck? Love takes time, it's not instant. But it was in this book. I also didn't like how Ms. Condie killed off Grandfather. I mean she wrote it in a beautiful way, I cried, I did. But why did she have to kill him. What was the point? I guess it could symbolize how disturbed the Society really was. But still I liked Grandfather. Cassia did too. Why couldn't we keep him? Oh Well. The next book is Crossed and I might read it. I'm still debating.

HOLY BEJEEZUS!!!!! I loved this book! I loved Caelena. She was such a strong heroine. Although at times she acted more like a Princess than an assassin. She cared more about her appearance and her body sometimes than she did her duty. Nevertheless, I loved her. She had a spitfire attitude that I could relate with. She didn't take no for an answer and she fought for what she wanted. Alas, there was another love triange. Between the Prince and the Captain of the Guard. Both of which should hate her because ya she's an assasssin and all. But they don't. THey both find themselves falling for Caelena. Prince Dorian was the main squeeze for most of the book but then Captain Westall started looking at her in a different light. And I AM SO GLAD THAT HE DID!! I loved Captain Westall more than I like the Prince. Dorian just seemed a little off to me. But Captain Westall, in my opinion, was perfect. The competiton was kindof obvious. We all know who  wins the competition of course. I mean it's obvious. And it is also obvious who the villan in the story is. I won't say who because I don't want to ruin anything for those who haven't picked up on all the obvious things. ANYWAY I CAN'T WAIT FOR THE NEXT BOOK IN THE SERIES     CROWN OF MIDNIGHT!!! WHOOO!!!!

Die for Me- Amy Plum

My life had always been blissfully, wonderfully normal. But it only took one moment to change everything.
Suddenly, my sister, Georgia, and I were moving to Paris to live with my grandparents. And I knew my life would never feel normal again. Then I met Vincent.
Mysterious, sexy, and unnervingly charming, he put me in danger of losing my heart all over again. But I was ready to let it happen . . . until I realized that Vincent Delacroix is no normal human--that he has a terrifying destiny and enemies who are determined to destroy him and all of his kind.
Can I risk everything for love?

The book was very low and I found myself putting the book down to read a different book. That is something you do not want to happen. Ever. But it was necessary for this book. It was annoying and because of it I couldn’t really get into it. Throughout the whole book I wasn’t sharing a connection with the main character Kate. Speaking of Kate she was a horrible main character. She was so whiny and at the beginning we see her mourning the loss of her parents and then we never here about her parents again. It just seemed odd. If your parents died don’t you think you’d feel the loss for a really long time? You would think. Wouldn’t you? Well Kate didn’t. And her love interest Vincent seemed a little too good to be true. He wasn’t even a strong romantic partner. No he wasn’t. If I had to choose someone for Kate I would’ve picked Jules because he’s fun and he’ll bring light to counteract her darkness. But the author decided that Vincent was going to be a good love interest. Well she was way off the mark because he’s not even close to being a good love interest. Ms. Plum should model Vincent after Jules then we would have an interesting romance going on. Then there’s the action. It would appear that the only thing rushed about this book was the action and fighting. It’s like why put in the action if there’s A.) Not going to be enough and B.) If it’s going to be rushed. If Ms. Plum would’ve put more action and make the action not rushed, this would be a very different review. But she didn’t and now she has forced us, her readers, to deal with the fallout, a book that is somewhat boring.

An Excerpt

A motion at the top of the bridge drew my eyes up from the water’s moonlit surface, where I had been watching for any trace of the girl. The man who had been trying to coax her down was now standing on the edge of the bridge, his widespread arms transforming his body into the shape of a cross as he threw himself powerfully forward. Time seem to stop as he hovered in midair like a giant bird of prey between the bridge and the black surface of the water.

And in that split second, a streetlight by the water’s edge flashed across his face. Recognition jolted through me. It was the boy from the CafĂ© Sainte- Lucie.

What in the world was he doing here, trying to talk a teenage girl out of a suicide attempt? Did he know her? Or was he just a passerby who decided to get involved?

His body sliced cleanly through the surface of the water and disappeared from view.

A shout erupted from underneath the bridge, and crouching silhouettes appeared in the murky blackness of the tunnel. “What the—!” Georgia exclaimed. She was interrupted by a flash of light and a sharp clanging of metal as two figures began to emerge from the darkness. Swords. They were sword fighting.

Georgia and I seemed to remember at the same moment that we had legs, and began sprinting back toward the stairway we had come from. Before we could reach it, a man’s form materialized from the darkness. I didn’t have time to scream before he caught me by the shoulders to stop me from mowing him down. Georgia froze in her tracks.

“Good evening, ladies,” came a smooth baritone voice.

Alice in Zombieland- Gena Showalter

She won't rest until she's sent every walking corpse back to its grave. Forever.
Had anyone told Alice Bell that her entire life would change course between one heartbeat and the next, she would have laughed. From blissful to tragic, innocent to ruined? Please. But that's all it took. One heartbeat. A blink, a breath, a second, and everything she knew and loved was gone. Her father was right. The monsters are real. To avenge her family, Ali must learn to fight the undead. To survive, she must learn to trust the baddest of the bad boys, Cole Holland. But Cole has secrets of his own, and if Ali isn't careful, those secrets might just prove to be more dangerous than the zombies.

I loved the characters and the storyline but the romance was scarce. Yes there was some romance but not enough. Alice and Cole are obviously made for each other I just wish Cole wouldn't of strung Alice along for so long. He wasn't doing it to be mean it's just he gave a lot of mixed signals. And for a girl mixed signals make you want to throw a chair at a wall. Am I right? Yes I am! No arguing. The book honestly didn't have anything to do with Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll except for the appearance of a white fluffy rabbit cloud in the sky. That made me a little disappointed. And to tell you the truth I am kinda, maybe, sorta getting sick of the whole Zombie craze. I love zombie books and everything but in moderation. Obviously Zombies are the theme for this book hence the title. But Ms. Showalter did such a good job of telling the tale that I didn't actually care all that much, that the book was about zombies.

"She was such a happy child, wasn't she?" said someone at my side. A woman I couldn't quite place but knew I'd seen before was peering at the smallest casket, tears streaming down her red cheeks. "We're going to miss her. I remember this one time..."
On and on she talked. I stood there, suddenly unable to breathe. I opened my mouth to tell her to shut up, but the words wouldn't form. I tried to walk away, but my feet were rooted in place, as if someone had poured concrete over my shoes.
“And then there was the time, in class, when she helped…”
A loud ringing sprouted in my ears and I couldn’t make out the individual words. Didn’t matter. I knew who she was talking about, and if she didn’t get out of my face, I was going to lose it. Already I was spiraling into an abyss, screaming silently.
“…and the other girls utterly adored her…”
Argh! Spiraling… spiraling out of control…
I deserved this, I reminded myself. This was part of my “worse.” My words, my insistence, had killed my family, had put them in those boxes. Had I done anything differently, a single detail, they would still be alive. But I hadn’t, and so here I was. There they were.
“…her talent, her spirit, were rare and glorious and I…”
The abyss threw me one way, then the other, cutting me up bit by bit, destroying me. The woman had to shut up. She just had to. Shut. Up. My heart felt pinned against my ribs, warping the beat, and if she didn’t shut up I would die. I knew I would die.
“…used to tell me she wanted to be just like you when she grew up. She admired you so much….”
Shut up, shut up, shut up! But she kept talking and kept telling me all about my…sister….
…about Emma…
…Emma…gone…my lily…gone…
I’d promised to keep her safe. I’d failed.
A scream ripped through my throat, followed right on the heels of another and another. I lost track of everything around me, clutched my ears to stop from hearing the utter horror in my voice, and fell to my knees.
No, not just to my knees. I fell down, down, down, the abyss, a never-ending pit of despair, still screaming, screaming. Consumed by grief, flooded by sorrow.
Hands patted at me, but I didn’t calm. I screamed so loud and so long my voice eventually broke. I gagged and chocked, tears pouring down my cheeks, pooling around me, a lake of misery. I cried so hard my entire body shook and my eyes swelled shut. I couldn’t breathe, didn’t want to breathe anymore. Dying would have been a relief.
I don’t know what happened after that. For the second time in my life, I lost consciousness. Maybe I would never wake….
