Illuminate- Aimee Agresti

Haven Terra is a brainy, shy high school outcast. But everything changes when she is
awarded a prestigious internship at a posh Chicago hotel under the watchful eyes of a
group of gorgeous strangers: the powerful and alluring hotel owner Aurelia Brown; her
second-in-command, the dashing Lucian Grove; and their stunning but aloof staff of
glamazons called The Outfit.
As Haven begins falling for Lucian, she discovers that these beautiful people are
not quite what they seem. With the help of a mysterious book, she uncovers the evil
agenda of Aurelia and company: they’re in the business of buying souls. Will they succeed
in wooing Haven to join them in their recruitment efforts, or will she be able to
thwart this devilish set’s plans to take the souls of her classmates on prom night at the
hotel?

The Review
31/2 Stars

I truly loved the book but I felt like there was something missing. I can't put my finger on it but something was missing. It was a mysterious and haunting book. One that left you wondering what happens next. I loved Haven and Lance. Especially Lance. He was there the entire time and never once questioned Haven's motives. He had so much trust in her. Throughout the book we get to see Haven develop from a timid girl to a confident woman. When the book ended, it was like she was ready to take on the world. She went through such a transformation. I loved those two characters. I also fell in love with Dante. He was so funny. I even loved Aurelia. She was an amazing and twisted character. She was so easy to love/ hate. That made her an excellent antagonist. Lucien on the other hand had me confused. Did he care about Haven? Or was she just a job?
I loved the romance. The romance between Haven and Lucien was fake. But the romance between Haven and Lance was not. That is a relationship that will seriously last forever. With everything they went through, everything else will pale in comparison.
The plot was good, but slow. I hate slow plots. They make me want to put the book down and start a new one. But I didn't I suffered through the slow spots and trudged on. When the story line started to pick up, I was pleasantly surprised. All in all it was good. but it lacked something.
