This is a truly unforgettable story. Logan is a marine who finds a picture of a girl and this picture turns into a good luck charm after he survives deadly combat. After three tours and too many friend's deaths Logan retires from the military. He tries to forget but he can't forget about the girl in the photograph. He thinks he owes her for saving his life so many times. He sets out to find the mysterious 'E'
Beth or Elizabeth, only called this by her brother, is a single mother. She has an overbearing ex- husband who scares all her potential boyfriends away. Beth doesn't like the marines all that much. Her brother was a marine, emphasis on the was, her brother died in friendly fire and now she is always wondering what marine did it. She feels guilty too because her brothers last request of her was to send a new photo of her that he had lost. She never got around to sending a new photo. But the old photo found a new home and protected someone new. The photo fell into the hands of the man walking across the country to find the beautiful woman in the photograph.
I loved this book because it could warm even the coldest of hearts. The characters were real and acted like a couple in a new found love. They acted completely smitten with each other. There wasn't a part in the book that I wanted to say one of the characters were saying something stupid or doing something idiotic. There were no long term fights that had you wondering if they were going to stay together in the end. There wasn't a tear- jerking moment I have come to expect from reading one of Nicholas Sparks books. He creates a beautifully woven tale in every book he writes. In every story he tells.
